I'm sure at some point in your life, you have come across people you would like to know better, perhaps for the possibility of romance, i.e. a crush.
It is possible it was at school, in the work place, in a bar, at the park, in a store, in a club, in the library, at a party, at a concert, or pretty much anywhere you could meet someone in passing.
There is also the other type of crush, you know, like the less realistic crush where you like someone you see on TV, or see in a movie etc., in other words a celebrity of some sort. I'm sure most of us can name one or two, or maybe even a few people in the entertainment industry we like the look of, or feel we can relate to, through things we read about them, or see in interviews, hear or read in song lyrics, or see a part being played in a film or TV show. These crushes usually feel a bit safer though, as they are less likely to happen, as the chances of meeting one of these people and getting to know them is slim. But it is easy to admire them from a distance.
So then what happens when that slim chance turns into a more realistic possibility? What happens if someone works in the entertainment industry, and by coincidence comes into a situation where they meet many entertainers, models, singers and actors regularly. Is there not a point where, like in a regular work place, crushes can develop. The real question is, how can that be comprehended, and how can it be communicated without the risk of losing the working relationship or possible friendship you may have already established, or be working to establish? Just like in a regular situation, how do you know if you tell a person you like them, that they won't put some distance between you, or make things awkward? And how can you find out if that person could possibly feel the same way, without really letting them know your true feelings?
I would be curious to hear from people in the entertainment industry, who have either been in a situation like this, or who have witnessed someone going through this. I have friends who have been through it, and I know someone going through it right now who is at her wits end over it, and it's an area I really can't relate to... though my gut feeling would be to tell her to "Run for the hills". As much as I am ever the romanticist, and love to see "Happily Ever After's", I am also very aware of Hollywood and all its temptations and trappings. It is one thing to enjoy the pleasure of someone's company and perhaps a bit of fun - however, as soon as feelings become involved, someone usually always ends up getting hurt. Why? I believe that Hollywood is a working city, where people are there to fulfill ambitions and dreams, which means sacrifices sometimes have to be made including having what could be deemed as a "normal" relationship. Careers usually take priority over anyone or anything. and once someone has reached a certain level of success, it is unlikely they will only want to have one partner in their life. It is not for me to tell tales on Hollywood, or to take anyones dreams away.. however if anyone ever wondered those "What if's" I can only go by what I have lived through, witnessed, and experienced in that place I call Emily's Hollywood.
